5 Content Marketing Trends to Grow Your Business in 2020

In this post, I’m going to share with you 5 content marketing trends that are killing right now.

It’s no secret things change quickly in today’s world, so it’s important for business owners and marketers to stay on top of the latest updates.

So if you’re wanting to grow your audience or build up your email list then knowing these 5 trends will help.

Let’s get started.

1.        Video Content

Videos are one of the most engaging forms of content right now and their popularity is only growing. Specifically, short videos that are less than 2 minutes long are extremely popular. Not only is video hugely popular, but social media platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram are heavily favoring video content by giving people who produce video more organic reach than ever before.

Video content is a powerful way to tell a story and connect on a deeper level with your audience.

On top of that, now there are numerous platforms you can use to reach your audience such as Facebook, Instagram stories, TikTok, LinkedIn, Youtube to name a few.

Here are some great video content ideas to help you brainstorm different topic ideas and add to your content calendar:

  • Promotion videos
  • How to guides
  • Product demos
  • Behind the scenes videos
  • Customer testimonials
  • Brand videos
  • Events
  • Live videos

Pro-tip: Shoot a series of videos in one session and later break them up into bite-sized snippets. That way you can publish a new 2-minute video every week across your social media channels.

2.    Launch A Podcast

Podcasts gained enormous popularity in the last 5 years, currently, 32% of all Americans listen to podcasts, that’s up from 21% in 2016 and the trend keeps growing.

What’s so special about podcasts is that they are still in their infancy and the competition is still relatively low compared with other forms of content. For example, there are 80 million Facebook business pages compared to just 700 000 podcasts and once you start filtering by niche, your competition becomes even smaller.

One thing I absolutely love about podcasts is that they can be consumed while multitasking.

Think about it…

If you were to start watching a video right now, you’d have to stop all other tasks and focus your energy 100% on that video, the same goes for reading blog posts.

Podcasts, on the other hand, can be listened to while driving or doing household chores.

Key takeaway: Content creators can tap into the growing market of podcasts and reach audiences that will listen while driving or walking the dog. There is a huge opportunity for new podcasters to make their mark in 2020 and reach their target audience.

3.        Interactive Content

You might already know that we humans have short attention spans. In fact, the average person loses their focus after 8 seconds! So, when someone visits your website, you literally have less than 8 seconds to grab their attention or they’re gone for good.

One way to keep people engaged is to use interactive content on your website and the good news is that there are numerous ways you can do that.

Chatbots, value-adding tools, polls, and surveys are all good examples of content your audience can interact with.

Here are some ideas to get you going with creating interactive content:

  1. If you run an eCommerce business, you could install a chatbot that helps customers navigate around your website and answers frequently asked questions.
  2. If your budget allows, you could hire a web developer to help build an interactive tool for your website. This could be a smart calculator that calculates how many months you need to save before you can go on that dream vacation.

I’ve personally invested in interactive content on my own website, it’s a special tool that helps Facebook marketers find ‘secret’ audiences on Facebook.

If you’re thinking about creating interactive content then always keep the end goal in mind. It should engage your audience, increase conversion rates and build your brand’s trust. It’s an additional value add to your current static content to differentiate you from your competitors.

4.        Ebooks

Unlike a blog post, ebooks can be downloaded or sent directly to someone’s email. It instantly feels like a special, tangible resource. Additionally, ebooks are a great way to grow your email lists and incorporate them into your sales funnels. Not to mention, when you give away a resource you instantly establish a stronger connection with your audience and are able to communicate with them directly through email.

In addition to lead generation, ebooks can be promoted across your social media channels multiple times and can be reused over and over again. This way you invite your audience to check out your content –  bringing in more traffic and new potential fans to your website.

Ebooks are nothing new and it has already been popular with content marketing, SEO, PPC, social media, email marketing, however, the trend isn’t slowing down as people love free guides. The trick in 2020 though is to make sure your ebook stands out from your competitors, so make sure you invest time creating an awesome resource.

5.     Influencer Interviews

Interviews with industry experts and influencers in your niche is a powerful way to gain exposure for your brand and tap into the audience of the person being interviewed. When you interview someone influential, chances are they’ll share it with their audience, giving you great exposure.

Interviews can also set you up as an authority in your niche and are a great tool to use for networking with others.

What I particularly love about interviews with industry experts is that you can use this content in various forms, whether it’s a podcast, blog, video blog post or a webinar – whatever fits your content marketing strategy

Conclusion

Even if you only implement and follow one of the above content marketing trends in 2020 I’d love to know which one is your favorite?

Will you start a podcast? Or maybe you’ll interview experts in your industry?
